HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY!

2021 Townie Intramural Open

The Townie Intramural Open is back and we are more excited than ever for 3 weeks of community, competition, and camaraderie. So what exactly is the Intramural Open and how does it work? The CrossFit Open is the first stage in the qualifying process for the CrossFit Games. People from all over the world compete in the online competition, performing a series of workouts and submitting their scores to the worldwide leaderboard. From there, the top performers move on to the next stage of competition, and the best in the world finally end up at the CrossFit Games.

So you might be asking, “I’m not going to make it to the CrossFit Games. Why should I participate in the Open?” Great question! The Open isn’t just about finding the fittest people in the world. It’s about so much more than that. It’s about coming together as a community to cheer each other on, have some fun, and push yourself to new limits.

To bring the worldwide open down to a grassroots level, we’ve created something called the Townie Intramural Open. While the fittest athletes in the world are competing for the title of “Fittest On Earth”, you’ll be competing for the title of “Townie Intramural Open Champions” and your team name immortalized on the Intramural Open trophy.

So how does it work? This year the gym has been broken up into 4 teams, each led by 1 team captain. Team captains are:

Martha Millard, Marty Lutes, Emily Ross, and Josh Connell

To sign up for the Townie Intramural Open, simply write your name down on the sign up sheet at the gym. If you would like to add your name to the worldwide open leaderboard you can sign up HERE. Note: you do not have to register on the CrossFit Games site to participate in the Townie Intramural Open. The deadline to sign up is February 27th.

After the sign up window is closed, we will host a closed door draft with the team captains to assemble their teams. After teams are drafted, the rosters will be released and an open signing period will begin from March 1st-March 10th. During this open signing period, team captains can recruit any remaining members who have not signed up for the open to join their teams.

Once the rosters are set the Intramural Open begins! The first workout is announced on Thursday, March 11th at 8pm and we will perform the workout on Friday, March 12th. The workout will be programmed as our class workout for each Friday of the open, and our evening classes will be a Friday Night Lights style event, running multiple heats of the workout, cheering each other on, and showing team spirit. Each and every workout will have multiple scaling options and levels no matter your fitness level and the coaches will guide you to a workout that fits you and your goals so everyone can participate.

Whether you’ve been training at Townie for 5 years or 5 days, the Townie Intramural Open is for you! Get signed up and let’s get this party started!
